The Way Forward

We launched Gold v2.0 around 2 weeks ago and so far I’m quite happy with the way the plugin has been accepted around the blogosphere. We’ve sent out some free copies of the Gold version to almost all our beta testers, if you were a beta tester and did not receive a free copy please send us an email via our contact form.

I’ve been thinking off a few ideas to make this plugin more than just a plugin and I tend to get very excited about them. But then I calm down and realize that rather than just implementing feature after feature, it’s better to have a steady product.

We’re not backed by venture capital, we have had good exposure on some good blogs {though I know we need more}, and downloads are always increasing. Most of all we’re not really thinking about making as much money as we can with this plugin. Because for the first time in my life I’m actually building something, props to my developer Owen Cutajar for being the rockstar that he is, that I feel like strongly about.

This is not some side-project, not a hobby, no this is my passion. How can I be passionate about auctions? Well, it’s not the auctions part I’m passionate about, it’s the building a product that will just rock! passion that I’m talking about.

So what are the plans going forward? Well, here’s a few things we’ve been thinking about -

  • A theme optimized to hold auctions - How about an auctions optimized theme to host your auctions and help you sell more items? It’s in the works :-)
  • v2.+ - Yep we’re already working on making this plugin better than it already is. If you have bought v2.0 you get free updates for life. Buy it now if you haven’t already.
  • Enhanced Live Auctions - We’re going to be implementing some awesome new features into our Live page.
  • Site re-design - I just can’t help it, it’s the designer in me. Besides, something fresh is always better.

Plus a whole lot more that I can’t even talk about yet. So yeah, stay tuned.

We just got started. :-)

  2. We love the plugin, thank you! The list format for auctions is perfect for our needs, so definitely good job on that one. Only concerns are a couple of minor problems with bidders not having their email addresses accepted to bid. Not sure why that is, in most cases they’re at work and I think there’s a firewall issue. The RSS feed for the auction also isn’t populating for us. Not sure why that one is, will try to look closer at it, but I’m not technically proficient. We generally love it and hope others find the plugin as useful as we did. Great job again!!!

  4. Rhea, there seems to be an issue with your folder structure. As you have the plugin installed in firstcoastsurfer.com/blog but yet you have the homepage of the blog showing up as firstcoastsurfer.

The problems you are facing generally tend to happen when folders don’t match up somehow, then it just gets confused. But it is something we will work to fix, so thanks for your comments and your awesome patronage.

The email issue seems to be with Internet Explorer, perhaps ask your readers to use Firefox? I’m sorry but that’s the best we can do. (I just tested it in IE it seems to be working, you can delete my bid from the Auctions “Manage” panel)

  6. Hyder thanks for response. I haven’t had any problems with the plugin, so unfortunately I can’t replicate what some of the bidders are running into either. I’ve asked them to switch browsers, but that didn’t go over well. lol Mean Microsoft developers. ;) Thanks again and didn’t realize the folder would cause and issue, but that makes sense. Auction is this Saturday, look for a follow-up post on the blog after then with details on how much we raised! =)

  8. Are you guys still giving away a beta copy of the version 2.0? Just to let you know guys I’m willing to be a beta tester. I love this plugin, I already generated an extra income with this plugin after putting a Banner ad for auction on my site.
    Good job guys. Cheers!

  10. What a great idea for a plug-in!

I’d really like to put it in place on my site’s blog, so I downloaded the free 1.0 version for a test before buying. Easy enough to install and set up an auction, but…

A few tries at bidding on a test auction produced an error, something about “No name was entered”. I tried both a single name and first/last name, but same error either way.

Where to look for the solution to this problem?

    Thanks for a cool product.

  12. Pinoy, the beta testers were sent plugins. If you were on the list you would have received it, if not then I’m sorry.

Favorites Club, Can you point us to your blog?

  16. Hyder,
no answer after almost a week?
oh well, I’ll just remove the plug-in then.
Seemed like a neat idea, but it’s no help if it doesn’t work.
    Best,
    Anthony

  18. @Anthony: Hi there, Hyder’s been unavailable for a few days. I’ve tested the free plugin to try and replicate the “No name was entered” error you describe and couldn’t get it to happen. Can you tell me how to produce the error?

I’ve tried your website, but I’m not seeing the plugin running, so can’t verify the error.

  20. @Owen,
I’ve already deactivated and removed the plugin from my webserver. I’ll reinstall within about an hour.

The error was easy to reproduce… click on Bid Now button, type in name, type in email, type in bid amount, click Bid Now…
Bingo! There’s the error message! “Bidder name not supplied”

    Let’s give it another try…
    Thanks

    :o)

  22. Hmmm… another week, no response here, and the script still doesn’t work.
Okay, I’m taking it off my server again. Nice idea, but not so much help if it doesn’t work.
I don’t have any more time to fool around with this. Hopefully you do (for the sake of your other customers…)
    Good luck

  24. Favorites Club, We’ve not experienced the error you are facing with anyone else. So I’m assuming that the problem is either with your server configurations, or your web browser. We can’t help you there. Sorry.

  26. This is one great plugin! I’m looking to translate it into German and have a look at any legal issues there may be (strange place Germany as far as the legals are concerned) - i.e. cost of shipping, terms of contract and the right for the buyer to return the goods within a certain time need to be specified on the page. But I’m sure I will get it sorted out

    Keep up the good work!

    Cheers

    Dave
